I often write about the funding crisis in adult social care, which is particularly acute in England.
With local authority funding under real pressure, this latest report suggests privately operated care homes can no longer afford to deliver services for councils.
In response to a Freedom of Information request, 197 local authorities revealed that care firms have cancelled contracts with 95 councils.
In addition, it was found that 69 home care companies have closed in the past three months and one in four of the UK's 2,500 home care companies faces the risk of insolvency.
These are worrying findings for anyone who has a relative in need of residential or domiciliary care.
When choosing a residential care home or provider of home care services, always look carefully at the financial strength of the business before making your decision.
"These figures show the enormous strain providers are under, and emphasises the urgent need for a long-term, sustainable solution to the social care funding crisis."
